Manners & Money: A Manual on Preaching Etiquette
by C. Lynn Brinkley
God has entrusted preachers with his sacred word, his church, and the sacred desk. Preachers have an obligation to offer back to God excellence in Christian ministry by conducting the ministry of preaching “decently and in order.” Likewise, churches are entrusted with honoring the time and energy that preachers — especially guest ministers — spend in preparation for speaking/preaching engagements by providing hospitable treatment and proper payment.
About the Author
Lynn Brinkley, who serves as a guest preacher herself and also works with student services and alumni relations at Campbell University Divinity School, addresses the issues of preaching and hosting etiquette in a manual written for current and future ministers — and those who instruct them — and also for churches. Based on scriptural guidelines, it addresses proper pulpit decorum and principles of hospitality and honoraria. A seminar on preaching etiquette, complete with an extensive questionnaire, is also included.
