A Stroll Through the Bible
by Dr. J. Stanley McQuade
This series of stories is aimed at helping adults and young people who would like to read and love the Bible but somehow have never managed to get into it. I stroll through the Bible, one story or passage at a time, and invite others to join me. Sooner or later in the process, if we are listening with our heart and seeking to order our lives by it, the penny drops and we are no longer getting into the Bible; the Bible is getting into us.
A native of Northern Ireland, Dr. McQuade graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast, in both law and philosophy, going on to take a Ph.D. in medieval philosophy. Finally he graduated in medicine and became an anesthesiologist, practicing in Western North Carolina before coming to Campbell University Law School in 1978 where he became Lynch Professor of the Philosophy of Law. He has taught courses in legal philosophy, legal history, torts, products liability and reading and working with medical records. He has been a Methodist minister for more than fifty years. He has numerous publications in the areas of law, philosophy, and theology. He early became involved in developing new ways that might improve learning. He was particularly interested in computer assisted education and in developing distance learning programs. More recently he has returned to his first love, the Bible. This present work is designed to introduce the stories and favorite passages of the Bible to a generation who have largely missed out on the ability to read the Bible for themselves. It is hoped that this book will help them to get into the Bible and, more importantly get the Bible into them, so that they may come to love it, live by it, and generally get it incorporated into their lives.
